Elizabeth first met Prince Philip of Greece and Denmark when she was 13 years old. Their romance began with a series of letters they exchanged. They didn’t get engaged until she was 21 years old. Only in July 1947 was the engagement made public. After that, on November 20th, 1947, the couple married in Westminster Abbey.
