30+ Hilarious Moments Where TV Anchors Were Caught In Awkward Situations

Published on 10/29/2021

Monkey Business

In any case, wild animals will frequently figure out ways to intrude on a news program when a journalist isn’t engaging with them directly. News on Fox 40 Sabrina Rodriguez was filming a story on the Lodi Grape Festival when a strange companion appeared for their brief celebrity rendezvous. In all honesty, a brazen monkey clung to his chance and braced his paw upon her right breast!

‘Put This On’

Surprisingly, everyone appears to care about what their neighborhood weather lady wears every day. Liberte Chan, a KTLA meteorologist, in particular! When one of the makers offered the climate lady a sweater on television, she was just going about her duties. Well, she was told: “We’ve been getting a ton of messages,” he answered. Watchers didn’t believe Chan’s dark dress was fitting for the morning climate. In the wake of putting on the pullover, the meteorologist said she looked like an administrator.”

Kissed

Everything appeared to be great for Fox Sports’ Erin Andrews when she covered the Daytona 500 in Florida in 2013 – until rapper 50 Cent gave her an unwanted kiss! Andrews was looking for Danica Patrick at the time when she happened to stumble upon 50 Cent. He gave her an unexpected kiss on the cheek as if he was overjoyed to see Andrews. Andrews, meanwhile, shifted her head from side to side, seeking to avoid the rapper’s lips.

Leg Problems

Kimberly Guilfoyle, a Fox News anchor, appears to be unable to keep away from controversy. As one of Fox News’ famously leggy anchors, the network makes a point of highlighting Guilfoyle’s legs while he’s on the air. Understandably, all of this attention would enrage some of the network’s more conservative fans. Guilfoyle’s famed legs have been known to annoy not only the audience but also her coworkers on the news! During her time on Fox, she had to change into something more modest several times due to Twitter comments!

Yanet Garcia And Her Outfits

Let’s face it: all news anchors, including meteorologists, have a difficult job. Reporters, anchors, and the like must always maintain a professional demeanor no matter what transpires behind the scenes. Every now and then, the producers and crew need to let off steam by having a little fun. Yanet Garcia, a Mexican weather woman, and model is known for reading the daily forecast for Televisa Monterrey in skimpy, revealing apparel. Garcia’s exit music was the incredibly suggestive Daft Punk song “Get Lucky,” which she wore while wearing a particularly short dress.

Caught Mistress

It’s probably not a bad idea to tell your partner not to wander through the kitchen half-naked if you’re planning to conduct a live broadcast from your apartment. Especially if your mistress is involved! After a naked woman strolled into the picture during a live news segment, Spanish reporter Alfonso Merlos went popular on the internet. Regrettably, the mysterious woman does not resemble Merlos’ wife! The viral video sparked a media frenzy in Spanish newspapers, many of which had just published stories on Merlos and his wife’s public breakup. Merlos apologized on El Programa de Ana Rosa after the event.

A Bit Too Jumpy

It’s happened to most of us: we get overly excited and do something we later regret in a fit of enthusiasm. It happened to Roxana Vancea, a Romanian meteorologist when she chose to wear a bodysuit that was one size too small. Everything was fine until she began jumping up and down in delight as she talked about the beautiful weather forecast for the weekend. Vancea’s top slipped slightly at that point, allowing viewers to see more than they were supposed to! Thankfully, Vancea’s employers, the news program Antena 1 TV, recognized the problem. She now has nearly half a million Instagram followers and a modeling career.

Almost See Through

Before going live on TV, it’s practically difficult to double-check that everything is in order. Just ask KRON 4 meteorologist Jacqueline Bennett in San Francisco. Bennett believed the lovely blouse she had chosen would look fantastic on television in her dressing room on October 17, 2010. Unfortunately, she had not taken into account the chilly studio and the extremely strong camera lights. Together, they nearly made her shirt see-through! She currently works for Spectrum News 1 and continues to report on the weather for Americans throughout the country.

Getting Airtime

Dogs, like people, appear to be unable to wait for their 15 seconds of fame. Ilona Linarte, a Russian anchorwoman, sensed something weird beneath her desk during a sleepy late-night newscast. Then, startled by a bark in the middle of her report, she leaped and shouted! A gorgeous black Labrador retriever had decided to walk beneath the desk and stop the show, as it turned out. The dog even jumped up next to Linarte to get some airtime!

Weather Girl Turned Model

When Mexican meteorologist Nailé López walked on camera on August 12, 2016, people couldn’t believe their eyes. She was dressed in a bright red vest and a pair of exposing brown shorts. As you can expect, it generated a stir on social media, with a debate brewing about the outfit’s appropriateness. López, like many other young meteorologists, has taken use of her wardrobe malfunctions. She chose to leverage her newfound celebrity to become a model after the uproar her attire sparked online. While López continues to report the weather on occasion, she makes a lot of money from her modeling jobs!

Going Invisible

Transparency is, of course, critical in the news media. However, meteorologist Liberte Chan of Los Angeles took things to a new level when she turned transparent to viewers while discussing the day’s prediction! Chan was wearing a dress that blended in a little too well with the green screen, as you can see in the shot above. It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time she’s done something similar. Fortunately, a friendly coworker was nearby and offered her his blazer! The weatherwoman had changed into something a little more fitting for the morning weather by the following time around.

Is She Wearing Anything?

When Belinda Russell, the weather woman on Australia’s Today Extra, walked onto the studio on August 22nd, 2020, viewers at home assumed she had committed the biggest sartorial faux pas imaginable: appearing on television absolutely naked. Viewers soon noticed Russell was not naked when their eyes adjusted. Instead, she wore a flesh-colored bodysuit that provided the impression of nudity. Why would somebody put something like this on?

Getting Knocked Down

As reporter Laura Rutledge worked the sidelines of a University of Georgia vs. University of Massachusetts football game in 2018, everything appeared to be fine. Rutledge, on the other hand, was hit hard in the blink of an eye by Georgia player Prather Hudson, who smashed into her and knocked her to the ground. Thankfully, the reporter was not gravely hurt and was able to laugh it off while continuing to report!

Champagne Problems

Nothing is more frustrating than making a mistake at work. Well, maybe screwing up twice at work! Emily Walker, the wine director at the Four Seasons Hotel Toronto, appeared on a local Canadian TV program in 2014 to discuss forthcoming Christmas activities at the hotel. She was also supposed to show how to saber-open a champagne bottle with a knife while she was there. However, things did not proceed as planned for the factory. Walker cracked the bottle on her first attempt, dousing herself and host Steve Darling in champagne. While on her second attempt, the bottle exploded!

A Cute Interruption

Let’s face it: while working from home has its advantages, it also brings some variables that we have no control over. Leslie Lopez, a meteorologist at KABC in Los Angeles, discovered this in early 2021. Lopez was taken aback when her 10-month-old son Nolan appeared on-screen during her morning weather presentation!

Having Too Much Fun

You’d usually anticipate a few bloopers from local news anchors, but CNN’s Don Lemon? Most likely not. During the network’s 2017 New Year’s Eve coverage, Lemon, on the other hand, decided to let free, loosen up, and have some fun. Most people would think it was a little too much fun. Lemon decided that drinking would be more enjoyable than accomplishing his job. “The tequila is, like, emitting from your pores!” Lemon’s co-host Brooke Baldwin warned him at one point. Following that, viewers had to sit through an unpleasant discussion on whether Lemon should pierce his ear or his breast. Lemon managed to save his job, owing in part to an apology the next day!

A Huge Spider

Kristi Gordon, a meteorologist for Global British Columbia, was providing her morning weather report to western Canada in 2012. Gordon followed by having the producers move to a live shot of the Vancouver Harbor after informing to viewers that they might expect a regular week. That’s when a creepy crawly made an appearance. A big spider draped over Gordon’s head when the live shot appeared on TV! As it turned out, a spider had taken up residence above the camera, ideally positioned in the frame. “Oh, that is so creepy!” Gordon shouted and dashed away from the camera. Her employees, on the other hand, couldn’t stop laughing at the weather woman’s scared reaction!

A Shirtless Cameo

Jessica Lang, a reporter for the Suncoast News Network in Tampa, has encountered a new challenge when working from home: her parents’ interruptions. Lang’s father strolled into the picture with his tummy out as he put on his T-shirt while recording a piece for work. Lang had no idea why her mother, who was holding the camera, had stopped recording at first. “Mom, what did you do?” The anchor then turned around to see her father standing behind her, shirtless. “Dad! Holy Cow! “With her fists clenched in frustration, she said. Lang later tweeted about the video, stating, “Work from home they said, it’ll be fine they said.”

Wardrobe Malfunction

It only takes one sharp-eyed observer to spot a blooper that no one else has noticed. When Susana Almeida, a Mexican weather girl, gave the morning weather for 4 Televisa Guadalajara on March 5, 2016, she didn’t think anything had gone wrong. The brunette meteorologist, on the other hand, failed to see that she was having a bit of a trousers problem, displaying herself to the audience a little more than she intended. Unfortunately for Almeida, a keen-eyed audience member saw, recorded, and uploaded the segment to YouTube. It earned more than 37,000 views in just 24 hours. Almeida shrugged off the wardrobe malfunction and went back to work the next day, although in less-tight pants.

Wet Interview

Most of you have likely heard the phrase “making a splash,” but nothing like this. Mike Bushell, the BBC Sports anchor, has made plenty of mistakes in the past, as have other news anchors. When he interviewed five English Commonwealth Games swimmers about their recent success in Australia, he honestly believed nothing could go wrong. Bushell was so sure of himself that he chose to conduct the interview from the pool! Regrettably, things did not go as to plan…

A Worrying Situation

At the start of this CNN segment, everything seemed normal. Poppy Harlow, a pregnant news anchor at the time, was on the air, discussing the war against ISIS with reporter Becky Anderson. Harlow’s speech became slurred and eventually slowed. CNN cut to commercials as she started having problems breathing, putting viewers on the edge of their seats! Harlow later announced that she was OK. When Harlow returned, she informed viewers, “For all of you on Twitter who are asking if I’m ok, thank you so much, I got a little hot, and I passed out for a moment, I’m fine, we’re going to take a quick break, and we’ll be right back.”

Going For A Swim

Martje Oesterholt, a Dutch reporter, hoped to make a big impression on the mayor during her interview. Regrettably, this is exactly what happened to her. The two were apparently recording a promotional video for an Easter Festival when the anchor, who was leaning against the side of the boat, lost her balance. Even though Oesterholt struggled valiantly to cling on to the rope next to her, she eventually fell into the ocean. Furthermore, there was chaos all around her as the mayor tried to drag her back with his mayoral chain while the sound guy tried to fish the anchor out with his boom mike! Thankfully, Oesterholt made it out of the water safely.

Collateral Damage

The Arizona Diamondbacks couldn’t contain their enthusiasm when they returned to the clubhouse following a thrilling walk-off victory over the Los Angeles Angels in 2018. Just ask Kate Longworth of Fox Sports! Longworth and Pollock were covered in a game-winning Gatorade shower by two other Diamondback players while interviewing player AJ Pollock. While baseball players are accustomed to receiving sport drink showers, Longworth’s expression indicated that she was not pleased with being “collateral damage.” Longworth, being the real class act that she is, returned to Diamondbacks stadium the next night for more post-game interviews!

‘This Is Quickly Going South’

After the coronavirus, WCBS meteorologist Lonnie Quinn thought he’d thought of everything when he set up a green screen in his home. He didn’t anticipate his two daughters to interrupt his portion, though! Quinn tried to continue forecasting the weather, but Savy and Lily refused to go! Savy said at the moment, “I’m staying with Dada.” Quinn responded, “This is quickly going south.” Quinn was apprehensive that the segment would be a flop, but it turned out to be a huge hit! He’s not the only one trying to keep his kids occupied in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak. Quinn was praised by anchor Anthony Mason on CBS This Morning after the piece aired.

Looking A Bit Too Similar

Everything seemed fine when ABC 7 anchor Marc Brown began reading the news one night in the late 1990s. That is until he saw a depiction of a wanted rapist and realized, as did many other viewers, that the drawing looked suspiciously like Brown himself. Many people at home questioned whether the thief was hiding in plain sight! Brown, of course, had nothing to do with the crime in the first place. It was merely a happy accident! This did not, however, prevent it from becoming one of the most iconic and amusing anchor images of all time. This iconic news report is still used as a meme all over the world today.

Head Perching

Many individuals believe that local news is only for the birds and that it provides little more than entertainment. When a small animal incident occurred on broadcast, San Diego news station KFMB did little to reverse this view. When one of the guests chose to come on-air unannounced, anchor Nichelle Medina was simply reporting on an upcoming addition to the San Diego Zoo. Sophie, a 10-year-old scarlet ibis, was the special visitor.

Charissa Thompson began her career on ESPN in the early 2000s and is currently making even more money on Fox Sports. She eventually worked her way up to co-hosting SportsNation with Marcellus Wiley, a position she held until she left the network in 2013. Thompson, on the other hand, gave us one of the best news anchor bloopers ever before she left!

He Just Wanted To Play

There’s a reason why news anchors and producers avoid working with wild animals: they’re impossible to control! For example, when the animals in the studio at Global Edmonton thought their story on the Edmonton Humane Society was over, they had other ideas. Ripple the puppy from the Human Society just wanted to play while weatherman Mike Sobel tried to tell viewers the prediction!

‘Go Back To Tinder’

Kimberly Guilfoyle, an attorney turned Fox News anchor, has created a name for herself by voicing her thoughts loudly and boldly, even if they get her in trouble. As you might expect, Guilfoyle had no qualms about participating in a debate on The Five in 2014 regarding the female constituency. Naturally, her replies drew a few raised eyebrows, as they typically do. Guilfoyle claimed during the discussion that many young women today lack the “life experience” necessary to be informed voters. Not only that, but she also suggested that these young ladies “go back to Tinder” rather than vote in the upcoming elections. Needless to say, many millennials and Generation Z-ers were offended by the move.

Falling Asleep

News anchors and television crews, in case you didn’t know, work extremely long hours. Even yet, they try their hardest to keep it together at work, just like the rest of us. Tucker Carlson, on the other hand, appeared particularly weary on a Fox & Friends early morning episode. Carlson actually slept off during one of the commercial breaks as a result of this! Worse, the show came back without waking him up! Carlson’s co-anchors and the internet, of course, had a good laugh at his expense before waking him up and finishing the show. At the very least, they let the audience partake in the fun!

Stray Ball

Baseball is sometimes described as a game of inches, and Sophia Minnaert discovered this firsthand in 2013. After all, if Minnaert, a Fox Sports sideline reporter, had stood just a few inches to one side, she would not have been frightened by a stray baseball. The event occurred immediately before the Pirates’ 5-2 victory over the Brewers in the top of the third inning. Minnaert was ready to announce the results of the broadcast’s Twitter poll when a wayward ball struck her right palm, sending her microphone flying and leaving her speechless! Minnaert, being the pro that she is, immediately retrieved her microphone and even finished the section!

One Is Not Enough

Emily Jones, a veteran sports reporter for Fox Sports, is used to having Powerade thrown at her during post-game interviews. So, starting in 2017, Jones began bringing silly string with him to ward off any would-be pranksters. However, the writer quickly discovered that even silly threads could not stop a determined baseball player. In 2017, when interviewing Texas Rangers’ Adrian Beltre, two more Rangers players approached Beltre and Jones with a Powerade bucket. Despite the fact that Jones had covered the players in silly string, they nevertheless dumped the ice-cold sports drink all over the reporter! Jones, being the true professional that she is, simply shrugged it off.

Goatman

Even if it’s unprofessional, you can’t help but chuckle at something humorous. When Maralee Caruso of CTV News Winnipeg began reading a story about a man who spent many days dressed as a goat, she couldn’t believe what she was saying. “You can’t make this stuff up,” Caruso remarked, recounting the story of a Winnipeg man who earned a Nobel Prize for spending days on all fours amid goats. Caruso started laughing as she delivered the story and couldn’t stop. Meanwhile, Caruso’s laughter spread to her co-anchors, who were also struggling to preserve their composure. Finally, Caruso had no choice but to go on to the next story without finishing the previous one.

Creepy Dude

Over the years, KTLA has had to deal with a number of unwelcome visitors. When Wendy Burch was doing a report on Los Angeles’ recent bid to host the Olympics, for example, a man approached her from behind and stood uncomfortably near. Burch, on the other hand, did not even realize what was going on behind her back! Burch turned around and shouted in fright as she finally turned around. The weird man bolted after she did, never to be seen again. Burch, thankfully, was unharmed and even laughed at the incident. But, seriously, dude? That’s not cool!

Off-Air

Transitions between news segments on television can be particularly difficult. A presenter or weatherman can be live without even realizing it if the required notice is not given. That’s exactly what happened in 2018 when the BBC had to cut meteorologist Tomasz Schafernaker short due to technical difficulties. Unfortunately, Schafernaker appears to have been unaware of the problem. Schafernaker assumed he was off the radio after repeatedly shouting “Hello?” and received no response. He had no idea that tens of thousands of people were watching him wander offscreen, pick at his nails and clothing, and get angry at the lack of communication at the game. Even meteorologists have days off days.

Throwing Everything Away

Have you ever been embarrassed at work and wished it would just go away? Tom Brown, the weather anchor for CTV Toronto, agreed! Brown was reporting from the polar bear exhibit at the Toronto 200 in 2011. Animal keepers asked the weatherman if he’d like to throw one of the bears’ favorite snacks, pumpkins, to them. Brown, unfortunately, missed the exhibit on both of his first two tosses! He then flung both his third pumpkin and his microphone into the frigid, polar bear-infested lake on his final throw! Brown wanted to forget about the incident, but his teammates wouldn’t let him. They teased the anchor over the years by substituting his weather chart with a video of his pumpkin throws.

Nonstop Gatorade Showers

The Washington Nationals have opted to make Julie Alexandria, a field reporter for MASN, a member of the team. How? By giving her a Gatorade bath after the game! That’s correct. In 2013, the Nationals won their first game. Alexandria was interviewing pitcher Gio Gonzalez when she became the subject of her own Gatorade drenching! Fortunately, Alexandria handled the situation admirably! She did, however, take a second Gatorade shower the next day after another Nationals victory. Alexandria was interviewing Jordan Zimmerman after he pitched a one-hitter in a 1-0 win over the Reds when she was drenched yet again! Thankfully, the team felt she was now one of their own after the second shower.

Surprise Guest

Reporter Brittney Kleyn was preparing for her live show in front of the local courthouse when she was surprised by a visitor. A rogue parrot decided to land on her shoulder at that precise moment! Kleyn was so taken aback by the surprise visitor that she started screaming in horror! Naturally, the anchor believed she was being attacked! Fortunately, the videographer came to the rescue after a good laugh. He was able to dislodge the parrot from its new perch after a brief moment. Lola, the parrot, turned out to be a lost pet. Thankfully, Lola’s owner was reunited with her thanks to the viral video.

Michelle Beadle (left) isn’t fond of her colleague Erin Andrews (right) and isn’t afraid to say it. Beadle appeared on the Dan Patrick Show in 2013, where she addressed her feelings toward Fox Sports star Andrews. While Beadle attempted to minimize the feud by saying it was “no big deal,” she later told Patrick that if Andrews walked into the room, she wouldn’t even say hello! Patrick asked Beadle whether she would say hi to Andrews, and she said, “I’m not that great at that. Probably not. We’ve been in an elevator before, and it was awkward. We don’t all have to like each other. It’s not that big of a deal.”

Zanta

Santa Claus is supposed to be a good guy, but street performer David Zanaci has different views. He frequently portrays “Zanta,” a loud, aggressive, and now-famous version of Santa. The muscled man is well-known in Toronto for rushing around yelling “yeah, yes, yes” and “Merry Christmas.” Then, in 2014, he went a little overboard. Zanta barged into the shot and began ranting when Global BC reporter Mark Carcasole was reporting from the streets of Toronto. The entertainer shouted, “Google Zanta! Google Zantal!” Thankfully, Carasole maintained his composure even as Zanaci began to make noise while being escorted away by security.

A Terrible Prank

While everyone has to deal with interruptions, one news reporter had to deal with the worst kind of disruption of all: a naughty adolescent. Pranksters are always lurking, waiting to cause havoc, especially while you’re live-broadcasting news from the field. This news reporter was live-broadcasting from Washington Square Park when a random young man approached him and pantsed him in front of the entire studio audience! Unfortunately, this news reporter found himself in the middle of everyone’s worst fear in an instant. He even attempted to pursue the person responsible but found it impossible to walk while with his pants down!

Breaking News

In 2017, the BBC made one of the most egregious news gaffes in history. Not only that, but it happened to Hugh Edwards, a 25-year presenter on one of the channel’s most popular shows, BBC Nightly News at 10. A technological failure assaulted viewers with random video segments for about three minutes, which is a long time on live television, interrupted by the loud “Breaking News” announcement. The broadcast would cut to Edwards, who sat motionless at the news desk, every now and then. inspecting his notes Edwards claims he was completely unaware of what was going on. The presenter finally began the show after what felt like an eternity, as if nothing had happened.

Who’s The Suspect?

Channel 3 intended to show a photo of the man accused of committing the crime during a very serious piece about the disappearance of a sixteen-year-old girl named Molly Bish. Regrettably, as you can see, this did not occur. While Rodney Stanger was the prime suspect, Channel 3 inadvertently broadcast a hamster instead! While most of us would have laughed uncontrollably for hours, the news anchor remained composed. “Well, no, this is not Rodney Stanger obviously,” she remarked hastily and without a hint of humor. She then promised that they would exhibit Stanger’s photograph again later, which they did.

Canoodling

A newscaster might sometimes blame their bloopers on the teleprompter. Sometimes, however, it’s a botched adlib, and the anchor has no one to blame but themselves. Like this Canadian news announcer, who clumsily transitioned into the weather forecast by saying to his female co-anchor, “maybe we should canoodle before you get into it.” Needless to say, she was taken aback and immediately declined the offer. During the subsequent conversation, the host admitted that he evidently mistook “canoodle” for “chit-chat,” not “snuggle.” Unsurprisingly, as the talk continued, the anchor pleaded for the segment to end.

No Pants

When you don’t have enough time to put on pants before a crucial interview, what do you do? Of course, you do it sans pants! Majid Asfour felt no one would notice he wasn’t wearing pants when he needed to do an interview with Al-Jazeera about a recent occurrence in Jordan. In reality, no one could, as you can see on television! Unfortunately for Asfour, a member of his family took a picture of him and posted it on Twitter. After that, Asfour became yet another reminder for everyone: make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to prepare for a meeting, especially during COVID. You might be caught with your pants down – or off – if you don’t.
