In 2017, the BBC made one of the most egregious news gaffes in history. Not only that, but it happened to Hugh Edwards, a 25-year presenter on one of the channel’s most popular shows, BBC Nightly News at 10. A technological failure assaulted viewers with random video segments for about three minutes, which is a long time on live television, interrupted by the loud “Breaking News” announcement. The broadcast would cut to Edwards, who sat motionless at the news desk, every now and then. inspecting his notes Edwards claims he was completely unaware of what was going on. The presenter finally began the show after what felt like an eternity, as if nothing had happened.
