Nadya had already become a media phenomenon before her octuplets were born, with news outlets, blogs, and newspapers all covering her unusual pregnancy. People began to remember her, and despite the fact that some didn’t know her real name, almost all recognized her as Octomom. Nadya tried to keep hold of the story and the various stories about her, and she considered using the publicity to help support her large family financially. She employed a public relations team after the birth of her octuplets in the hopes of being able to monitor the story that was shared with the public, but this proved to be a challenging job.

After giving birth to her octuplets, Nadya got the same amount of media coverage, earning her a slew of critics who accused her of desiring the limelight and even said that this was the real reason she chose to have all of her children despite the risks she took. Meanwhile, Nadya was preoccupied with adjusting to her new public image and raising fourteen children! Over time, she found that dealing with her celebrity became more complicated. Her pregnancy and delivery were contentious enough, but Californians also accused Nadya of squandering public funds and embodying virtually all that is wrong with modern America, and she was even threatened!
