George Harrison
Another great artist was a forerunner of his day. This founding member of the Beatles died in 2001 at the age of 58 from throat cancer, which he attributed to years of smoking. Harrison was the first Billboard Century Award recipient in 1992. It marked Harrison’s “critical role in laying the groundwork for the modern concept of world music.”
